The only difference other than looks (that I can think of anyway) is possibly that a round skirt saddle might slide from side to side since it doesn't curve around the barrel. I like my round-skirt Bob Marshall because Dundee's back is kind of short, and I think a full skirt would bump his hips. I think it's just what you prefer for the most part.

well, now I don't think it matters so much, but used to be, the rounded skirts were barrel saddles or Arab saddles. Does this help?

ROund skirts are lighter for the most part, and are for horses with shorter backs. If you have a very short backed horse with a square-skirted western saddle, and ask the horse to disenguage it's hindquarters, that will be extremeley uncomfortable for the horse. The purpose for them being round is so that they are shorter. That's why most barrel saddles are round-skirted, so the saddle doesn't get in the way of the horse's movement around the barrels. They are also good for horses with "well-sprung" ribs, which would explain why so many arab saddles are round skirts. Hope I could help!

lol, I think you guys are talking about the back part, so I'll add my 2 cents. Arab saddles and fusion have a round one, it's lighter for the horse and isn't as long so you don't need a back cinch as much, unless your seat is really long.

*sigh* fine. then... either H&H or.. well, i really dont know. havent had much experience western saddle wise. (other than the saddles i own, that is) all i really know is the negative points. Wintecs slip, Circle Y's are often too small.. (pinch) okay, REALISTICLY, besides a Fusion, i'd LOVE a custom built saddle on a Wade tree by a guy i know. he makes some pretty saddles....

I would love a wade saddle.besides a fusion, a wade is like my dream saddle.
I loved my friends Circle Y, it fit Branders really well, and thats what I'm hoping to get for x-mas and my b-day. I won't get presents for the next 5 years but I'll still have the saddle, I hope..
